Summary

The WWW Publishing Service was unable to successfully start a worker process.

Causes

The worker process’ Application Pool identity is invalid.

Resolutions

To resolve this issue execute the following steps:

Update Application Pool has valid run-as identity. To do this use the Internet Information Services Manager snap-in which can be found in the Computer Management console. The following task will start the Computer Management console:

Start Computer Management Console

Once the Internet Information Services Manager snap-in is loaded perform the following steps:

1. Select the relevant Application Pool and open up the property sheet using the Properties context menu option

2. Select the Identity tab on the property sheet

3. Update the User Name and Password and select OK

4. Select the relevant Application Pool and select the Recycle option from the context menu.

Once done confirm that the User Name specified for the identity of the Application Pool is part of the IIS_WPG Local Group. To do this use the Local Users and Groups snap-in which can be found in the Computer Management console. The following task will start the Computer Management console:

Once the Local Users and Groups snap-in is loaded perform the following steps:

1. Select the Groups node in the scope pane

2. Select the IIS_WPG group and open up the property sheet using the Properties context menu option

3. Confirm that the User Name specified for the identity of the Application Pool is a member of the group. If not add it to the list using the Add button.
