Summary

The Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) has stopped. The Configuration Manager Client requires this service to access necessary data from the management point and distribution point. This condition does not repair itself and must be resolved before Configuration Manager can resume some of its core functions.

Causes

This condition typically occurs when:

  • The computer that is running the BITS service is shut down or is restarted.

  • The computer is being upgraded with hotfixes or service packs or a later version of the service.

  • BITS is manually shut down.

Resolutions

  • Verify that the BITS service was stopped due to routine or scheduled maintenance.

  • If BITS service is not already started, start it.
