Summary

The Management Server failed to connect to an administrative share.

Causes

This can be caused by the following problems:

  • The remote computer does not have any remote administrative shares (they may have been removed).

  • The Server windows service may not be running on the target computer.

  • The Workstation service may not be running on the Management Server.

Resolutions

Ensure that the target computer had Administrative shares.

To view them:

  • Open the Computer Management MMC snap-in on the target computer.

  • Expand "Computer Management", then "Shared Folders", then click the "Shares" folder.

  • In the list of shares, look for shares that end with a "$". Example: C$, Admin$. These shares are used by the Management Server to connect and copy down the agent installation files.

The administrative shares are created when the Server service is started. If you do not see the Administrative shares, you can recreate them by restarting the "Server" service on the target computer.
